Stadium to Be Named for Hall of Fame Coach Larry Korver

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern College has announced that its on-campus stadium will be named Korver Stadium in honor of NAIA Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame coach Larry "Bubb" Korver.

The announcement comes as Northwestern begins a $10.9 million renovation project at the stadium. The groundbreaking ceremony took place as part of the 2026 Raider Nation Celebration festivities.

In partnership with Ampere Design and Tarkett Sports, Northwestern will make a number of facility improvements designed to enhance the Raider fan experience. The project will expand and improve restroom facilities, create a new concessions and merchandise area, add a brick façade and press box elevator at the west entrance, install new fencing and a sound system connected to a new videoboard, and create a VIP lounge.

Korver spent 28 seasons as Northwestern's head football coach, leading the Red Raiders to two national championships in 1973 and 1983. He compiled a 212-77-6 record and led Northwestern to the postseason 11 times. His teams finished as national runners-up in 1972, 1979 and 1984 and reached the national semifinals three additional times.

"Coach Korver built the foundation of Red Raider football leading an intentionally Christian program that honored God with excellence," said Vice President for Athletics Tony Hoops. "As we build a new foundational structure within the stadium, there is one man to name this foundation after. The impact he has had on thousands of players, Northwestern College, and our community is profound. Coach Korver's legacy will continue forever as generations to come play in Korver Stadium."

Korver was named NAIA Coach of the Year in 1973 and 1985 and is currently 11th on the NAIA's all-time coaching wins list. He coached 32 NAIA All-Americans and led the Red Raiders to a conference championship in 1994. Korver was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1990.

Beyond the wins and championships, Korver developed and prepared student-athletes not only to become great players, but also to make an impact as husbands, fathers and leaders.

In December 2025, Korver was inducted into the National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Football Hall of Fame as a member of the 2025 class. He was one of 22 inductees in the class, joining fellow coaches Urban Meyer, Nick Saban and Larry Blakeney.
