Football Academic All-District Selections Released

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Eight Northwestern football student-athletes have been recognized with College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors. Gianna Bennett, Ben Egli, Hayden Groos, Reid Hulshof, Korver Hupke, Sam Remmerde, Jackson Smythe, and Trystin Voss are Northwestern's honorees, receiving accolades for their work on the field and in the classroom.

Bennett, a secondary education and social studies major from Urbandale, Iowa, was automatic on special teams, making 25 of 28 extra point attempts and converting on eight field goal attempts this season. In eight of her nine appearances this season, Bennett made every extra point attempt, including a 5-for-5 outing in the season opener against Waldorf and a 7-for-7 day in November 8's win over Doane.

Egli, a finance major from Fort Dodge, Iowa, was a versatile defender, sitting second on the team with 50 tackles. He also had a tackle for loss, two interceptions, and three deflections. Egli represented the Raider football team on Northwestern's Student-Athlete Leadership Team (SALT).

In his first season on the defensive side of the ball, Groos, a biology/health professions major from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, recorded 11 tackles in eight games. He played in every game as the holder on field goals and PATs and joined Egli as the team's SALT representative.

A reliable long snapper for the Raiders, Hulshof, an engineering major from Sioux Center, Iowa, played in all 10 games. He recorded three tackles on the year and had a fumble recovery.
Hupke, a biology major from Independence, Iowa, was a leader on the Raiders' offensive line, earning All-GPAC honors for the second consecutive year. Northwestern's offensive line worked in the trenches, averaging 119.0 rush yards per game.

A senior exercise science major from Rock Valley, Iowa, Remmerde caught 15 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns at the tight end position. This season, he logged career-highs in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.

Smythe, a nursing major from Tea, South Dakota, was Northwestern's tackling leader with 72 stops. The Second Team All-GPAC selection also had five tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks on the year.

Voss, an actuarial science and finance major from Rogersville, Missouri, racked up the accolades this season, earning First Team All-American honors from the NAIA/AFCA, and Second Team honors from the AP. He was recognized as the GPAC Defensive Player of the Year and was a Campbell Trophy semifinalist, totaling 25 tackles with 7.5 for loss on the year. Voss also picked up five sacks for losses of 36 yards on the year and led the Raiders with 15 QB hurries. He rose to the challenge midseason, filling in on the offensive line while still holding down his position on defense. In the four games that Voss played on both sides of the ball, he totaled 309 snaps.

Voss, Smythe, and Egli will be placed among the nominees for CSC Academic All-America teams, voted on by members of the organization. Academic All-America teams will be announced on Tuesday, January 27.
