Rebounding Dominance Leads to Convincing Win

ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Northwestern College (11-11, 7-9 GPAC) outplayed Doane University (10-11, 8-9 GPAC) with an 80-67 victory at the Bultman Center on Saturday, dominating the boards with a commanding 52-28 rebounding edge.

The Red Raiders set the tone in the opening quarter with a staunch defense, racking up four blocks and grabbing 17 rebounds. Just moments in, Allison Piercy ignited the offense with a three-pointer, courtesy of an assist from Emily TerWee. Northwestern capitalized on second-chance points, tallying nine off offensive rebounds and asserting themselves in the paint with eight points.

Emily TerWee's contributions, including a layup and a jumper, fueled the Raiders' momentum. Jaelye Woudstra extended the lead with a late three-pointer, assisted by Maddie Pottebaum. Northwestern's bench showcased its depth, adding nine points, and closing the quarter with a 21-15 advantage over the Tigers.

The Red Raiders kept the defensive pressure on, securing ten defensive rebounds and keeping pace on offense. Key contributions from Margo Schuiteman and Jenna Kluxdal, combined with strong defense, limited the Tigers' scoring chances. By halftime, Northwestern held a 38-27 lead.

The third quarter saw Northwestern maintaining their lead, with Ashtyn Wobig opening strong, converting a layup and free throw to push the lead to fourteen. The Raiders kept the pressure on, with a three-pointer from Kylie Foss and a layup from Wobig, extending the lead to 48-35 midway through the quarter.

Ellie Karolevitz added to the momentum with a layup off an offensive rebound, and Jenna Kluxdal's three-pointer at 3:28 gave Northwestern their largest lead of the quarter at sixteen points. Despite some turnovers, the Raiders ended the quarter tied 18-18, still leading comfortably at 56-45.

In the fourth quarter, Northwestern continued their strong play. Allison Piercy's three-pointer, assisted by Margo Schuiteman, extended the lead further.
