Northwestern Athletes Shine at Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa – At the Dennis Young Indoor Classic, Northwestern College showed up in style, with standout performances led by senior Braden Kalvelage, who sprinted his way to victories in both the 60m and 200m.

The event, hosted at Buena Vista University, witnessed Northwestern's prowess, headlined by Kalvelage's winning times of 6.91 in the 60m dash and 22.51 in the 200m dash. His speedy achievements were backed by junior Vance Hayenga-Johnson, who claimed second place in the 60m, clocking in at 7.11. The Red Raiders' depth shone through in the 800m run as sophomore Carson Van Sickle clinched first place with a time of 1:54.66, further establishing the team's dominance in middle-distance contests.

In the men's 4x400m relay, Northwestern's teams seized the top two spots, flexing their relay muscle. The B team, made up of Damon Bye, Vance Hayenga-Johnson, David Poppen, and Collin Bliven, took the win with a finish time of 3:31.98. Elsewhere, freshman Josiah McFarland made his mark in the 60m hurdles, coming first with a time of 8.63. Mike Rodriguez also impressed in the long jump, landing a second-place finish with a leap of 6.56m.
