ORANGE CITY, Iowa- Northwestern College pulled off a thrilling 90-86 victory over Hastings College on Saturday at Bultman Center. The Red Raiders' impressive 54.8% shooting from beyond the arc was key in turning around a 13-point deficit early in the second half.
Hastings jumped to an early lead, with a three-pointer just 28 seconds into the action. The Raiders answered back as
Kaleb Booth hit back-to-back threes, giving them a brief lead, but the Broncos fired back, using sharp perimeter shooting to establish a comfortable advantage halfway through the first half.
Jalen Langsy was a standout for the Raiders, consistently scoring both inside and outside the arc. Despite Langsy's efforts, Hastings held onto their momentum, as the half concluded with Northwestern trailing 49-37.
The Raiders kicked off the second half with a surge, narrowing the gap quickly. A Booth three-pointer sparked a rally that saw Northwestern take the lead, thanks to another Langsy's clutch three-pointer. The Raiders showcased offensive prowess, nailing 10 three-pointers on 17 attempts this half. Defensive plays were just as crucial, with Langsy and
Brennan Reid coming up big with a block and a steal.
Manny Hammonds chipped in with at least eight points, marking his third game in a row hitting that mark. In the final minutes,
Jesse Van Kalsbeek's free throws widened the Raiders' lead to a comfortable 14 points, with the game wrapping up at 90-86.
