The Red Raiders dropped a competitive GPAC dual on Thursday night, falling 24–15 to Morningside University in a matchup that featured several hard-fought bouts and key momentum swings.
The dual opened at 125 lbs, where Logan Schroeder got Northwestern off to a strong start with a 5–2 decision over Ryan Buchanan. At 133, Morningside answered as Noah Thorsen snuck by Ethan Skoglund in a tight 2–0 decision.
Northwestern regained the lead at 141 lbs, with Noah Parmelee turning in a composed performance to earn a 15–7 major decision over Isaac Lomas. The Mustangs responded at 149, where Caden Eggleston secured a 15–6 major decision over Johnny Burnette to swing the momentum back in their favor.
At 157, Cade Braun delivered one of the Raiders' top performances of the night, overwhelming Collin Hurlburt with a 21–5 technical fall to add crucial bonus points. Morningside quickly countered at 165, as Zander Ernst defeated Wyatt Bice by 22–6 technical fall.
The Mustangs extended their lead at 174 with a forfeit victory. At 184, Joseph Monge picked up an 11–7 decision over Thomas Vance, keeping Morningside in control of the team score.
Northwestern found success again at 197, where Joel Arias earned a 7–2 decision over Sendeska Kalskett. The dual concluded at 285, with Megaeska Kalskett closing out the night for Morningside by earning a 5–1 decision over Logan Ash.
