Raiders Come Up Short Against Graceland

LAMONI, Iowa — Northwestern College (2-1-1, 0-0) fell to Graceland University (1-2-1, 0-0) with a final score of 2-0, as Graceland's goalkeeper recorded a shutout with three saves.

The first half of the match between the Raiders and Graceland saw a strong defensive effort from Northwestern's goalkeeper Edoardo Alessandrini, who made five saves. Graceland's offensive persistence paid off in the 40th minute when Stosh Nevshemal scored the opening goal, assisted by David Hopfer. Northwestern struggled to break through Graceland's defense, with their best chance coming from Juan Miranda's shot in the 42nd minute, which was saved by Yuta Hirano. Graceland ended the half with a 1-0 lead, capitalizing on their offensive pressure despite multiple fouls and offside calls.

The second half began with the Raiders maintaining offensive pressure, as Jannes Keuhn attempted a shot in the 50th minute, though it went high. Alessandrini made a crucial save against Graceland's Adam Wiman just three minutes later. Despite several attempts, including shots from Charles Saydee and Jovany Kabongo, the Raiders were unable to capitalize on their chances. Graceland's Joaquin Wesner extended the lead in the 79th minute with a goal assisted by Hopfer, bringing the home team's lead to 2-0. Northwestern's efforts continued, but Graceland's defense held firm to secure the win.
