Raiders Capitalize on Second-Half Opportunities for Road Win

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. – Northwestern secured a decisive victory over Avila (Mo.) with a 3-0 shutout on the road at Paragon Star Soccer Complex, thanks in part to a strong offensive showing with 22 total shots.

The first half saw the Raiders maintain offensive pressure with multiple attempts on goal. Rodri Perez had an early shot saved by the Eagles' goalkeeper Harrison Ennis in the fifth minute, setting the pace for a series of Raider attacks. Despite several shots being saved by Ennis, the Raiders broke through in the 33rd minute when Gorka Ilundain scored the first goal of the match, assisted by Juan Miranda. The half ended with the Raiders leading 1-0, having capitalized on their persistent offensive strategy.

The second half began with the Raiders maintaining an aggressive offensive stance, with Jovany Kabongo attempting two early shots, one of which hit the crossbar. The Raiders later capitalized on a penalty opportunity in the 70th minute, with Jannes Keuhn converting the penalty kick to increase the lead to 2-0. Shortly thereafter, Joao Mbala extended the lead to 3-0, assisted on Diego Quintero's corner kick. The Eagles' efforts to respond included several shots and corner kicks, but the Raiders' defense, led by goalkeeper Lars Ingram, held firm, ensuring a clean sheet through the end of the half.
