First Half Dominance Pushes Raiders to Victory

ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Northwestern (4-1-1) defeated Saint Mary (2-2-1) 3-1 on Saturday, with all three goals scored in the first half at NWC Soccer Complex.

Northwestern established an early lead against Saint Mary with Daniel Lindahl scoring the opening goal in the fourth minute, assisted by Charles Saydee. The Raiders maintained offensive pressure as Bauti Marques extended their lead to 2-0 in the 19th minute with a goal assisted by Piet Hennings. Saint Mary struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, being caught offside three times and failing to find the target with multiple attempts, including a series of high and wide shots. Emerson Brazones capped off Northwestern's dominant first half with a third goal in the 38th minute, assisted by Marques, leaving the score at 3-0 by the end of the period.

The second half opened with the Raiders maintaining a strong defensive stance, as goalie Edoardo Alessandrini saved a header from Rylan Nowak at 51:31. Despite several attempts from Saint Mary, including a high shot by Bryan Riojas, Rylan Nowak managed to capitalize on an assist from Matias Allou to score for Saint Mary at 60:04, narrowing the gap to 3-1. Northwestern's Drew Darnold and Brazones had their shots blocked shortly after, with Diego Quintero receiving a yellow card at 61:55. Saint Mary continued to pressure with multiple shots and corner kicks, but Alessandrini's saves and a blocked shot from Zxyon Hendricks kept them at bay.
