How It Happened
The Raiders took an early lead due to an attack error and a service ace from
Maggie Bloom before CSM responded with a series of kills, briefly taking the lead at 3-2. Northwestern regained momentum, with
Aubrey De Groot contributing multiple kills and
Liv Reitsma providing assists, pushing the score to 14-10 in favor of the Raiders. As the set progressed, Northwestern maintained their lead, with significant contributions from
Zavyr Metzger and
Nyah Potthoff, concluding the set with a 25-21 victory following a decisive kill by Potthoff.
The Raiders surged ahead in the second set against the Flames, capitalizing on a series of attack errors and strong offensive plays.
Sidney Oostra and
Makenna Lilly contributed significantly, with Oostra tallying multiple kills, assisted by Reitsma and Metzger. A pivotal moment came when Northwestern went on a commanding 7-0 run, extending their lead to 12-6, featuring a service ace from
Madi Nemmers. The set concluded with De Groot securing the final two points, both from Reitsma's assists, giving the Raiders a decisive 25-10 victory.
The Raiders secured a tense 25-22 victory in the third set against CSM. The set was marked by a back-and-forth battle, with the Raiders initially pulling ahead 15-11 after a series of successful plays, including a kill and a block from
Zavyr Metzger. CSM responded with a surge, narrowing the gap to 24-22 after consecutive points. However, the Raiders halted the comeback with a decisive kill from
Sidney Oostra to close the set.
