Voss Named a Semifinalist for Campbell Trophy

IRVING, Texas – The National Football Foundation (NFF) announced its semifinalists for the 2025 William V. Campell Trophy, and Northwestern senior defensive lineman Trystin Voss was named to the list.

Voss was recognized among 177 semifinalists from all college football divisions and was one of seven NAIA student-athletes to be named to the list.

"Trystin is a coach's dream student-athlete. Not only is he one of our best players but he also sets the tone for our entire team because he is the hardest worker in the classroom, in the weight room and on the field. He sets the bar high and brings out the best in those around him," head coach Matt McCarty said.

A senior from Rogersville, Missouri, Voss has been a valuable contributor to Northwestern on the field and in the classroom. The actuarial science and finance double major entered the season with 38 games played, 118 total tackles, 27 tackles-for-loss, and 14.5 sacks. In 2024, he was named a Second Team NAIA and AFCA All-American, a First Team All-GPAC pick, and a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selection.

In addition to his work on the field, Voss has served as the President of Northwestern's actuarial science club, the Vice President of the investment club, and has been a volunteer youth flag football coach.

"We are honored to celebrate such an extraordinary group of student-athletes as semifinalists for the Campbell Trophy," said NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell. "Their accomplishments reflect the lasting impact of our game — building character, discipline, and leadership, extending far beyond football. Selecting finalists from this outstanding class will be a tremendous challenge, but it's a challenge that underscores the unique prestige of this award."

College football's premier scholar-athlete award, the Campbell Trophy recognizes an individual as the best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance, and exemplary leadership.

Nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each, candidates for the awards must be a senior who will complete his final year of eligibility in the 2025 season or a graduate student or graduate transfer who has already earned a degree and is participating in the 2025 season; have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale; have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor; and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, NFF College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators.

Finalists will be announced on October 22, with each finalist receiving an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and will be a featured guest at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner in Las Vegas on December 9.
