ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Northwestern College (5-1-1, 1-0-0) secured a 2-1 victory over Concordia University, Nebraska (2-6-0, 0-1-0) with two second-half goals at the NWC Soccer Complex.
In the first half between the Raiders and Bulldogs, both teams struggled to find the back of the net, resulting in a scoreless half. The Raiders had several offensive opportunities, with
Bauti Marques taking an early shot at the 4:04 mark, saved by Concordia's goalkeeper Nolan Fuelberth.
Jannes Keuhn and
Drew Darnold each attempted shots, but they were either wide or blocked, while
Juan Miranda executed multiple corner kicks to try and create scoring chances. The Bulldogs' offense was limited, managing only a wide shot by Ricards Busmeisters in the 13th minute, as the half concluded with neither team able to capitalize on their attempts.
The Raiders took an early lead in the second half with a beautiful goal by Keuhn, assisted by
Daniel Lindahl, at the 46:22 mark. Despite several fouls, the home team continued to apply pressure, and Darnold extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 70th minute off a strong low cross into the box from
Gonzalo Domingo. The Bulldogs responded late in the half, narrowing the gap to 2-1 with a goal from Michael Wyvill in the 88th minute, assisted by Oliver Balazs. The Raiders held off further attempts from the Bulldogs to secure the win.
Up Next: the Raiders take to the road, heading to Forest City, Iowa, to face off against Waldorf. The match is set for Wednesday September 24 at 5 p.m.
