A GPAC Sweep on Saturday for Raiders

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Northwestern headed on the road to Briar Cliff for a GPAC volleyball matchup, in which the Raiders would sweep the Chargers 3-0 to remain undefeated in conference play.

How It Happened

Northwestern opened the first set with a commanding 7-0 run, featuring four service aces by Sidney Oostra, prompting an early timeout from BCU. The Chargers responded, but were unable to close the gap significantly, as the Raiders maintained their momentum. Liv Reitsma contributed effectively with multiple assists, including a key kill by Aubrey De Groot to extend Northwestern's lead to 11-4. Briar Cliff made another push, reaching a 16-13 deficit, but Northwestern's consistent play, highlighted by a service ace from Stella Winterfeld, sealed the set at 25-16.

In the second set, Northwestern established an early lead once again with Winterfeld and Zavyr Metzger securing kills to make the score 2-0. Despite some attack errors, Northwestern maintained their momentum, capitalizing on errors from Briar Cliff and effective kills, extending their lead to 12-6. After a timeout, the Raiders continued to build their lead to 24-17. BCU attempted a late rally, closing the gap slightly, Northwestern sealed the set 25-19.

In the final set, Northwestern initially found themselves tied with Briar Cliff at 6-6, but a service ace by Liv Reitsma ignited a four-point run, pushing the Raiders ahead 10-6. The Chargers momentarily halted the momentum, only for Northwestern to respond with another scoring burst, extending their lead to 18-13. Briar Cliff's efforts to close the gap narrowed the score to 22-20, but Metzger would deliver the final kill to seal the match.

  • Liv Reitsma led the team in digs (9) and assists (18)
  • Sidney Oostra dominated the serving game with five aces, a career high
  • The Raiders have won 22 straight matches against GPAC opponents, including the postseason
  • Emma Westphal was more involved with nine kills on 16 attacks
