Career Firsts Boost Raiders to Win

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Two Raiders scored their first career goals, and head coach Vitor Pereira notched his first head coaching win as Northwestern shut out William Penn (Iowa) 2-0.

The first half of the match between the Red Raiders and the Statesmen was marked by a strong offensive showing from the latter, who took multiple shots early in the game. Lilly Cote was particularly active, with shots in the 6th, 14th, 28th, and 43rd minutes, though none found the back of the net. Bailey Bynum was effective in goal for the Raiders, making key saves, including one against Madison Soratos in the 11th minute. Despite William Penn's frequent attempts, the Raiders capitalized on a late opportunity when Mya Cole scored on a free kick in the last minute of the half, marking her first goal of the season and giving Northwestern a 1-0 lead after 45 minutes.

The Raiders extended their lead early in the second half as Aliza Edwards pushed the ball on a breakaway and found Olivia Regnerus to her left, with Regnerus finishing the scoring opportunity. The Statesmen attempted to respond with a shot by Elycia Cooley in the 51st minute but were thwarted by a save from Bynum. Northwestern became the aggressor in the waning minutes, keeping possession and playing firm defense to complete the shutout.
