Late Heroics Boost Raiders to Victory

MONTREAT, N.C. - Northwestern College (1-0-0) secured a 1-0 victory over Montreat College (0-1-0) with a second-half goal at Pulliam Stadium in Montreat, N.C.

The first half between the Red Raiders and Montreat was marked by a defensive battle, with both teams unable to find the back of the net, ending 0-0. The Raiders registered a series of shots, with Bongkefon Kumla shooting high twice, and Emerson Brazones, Charles Saydee, and Jannes Keuhn all having attempts saved by Montreat's goalkeeper Adrian Torres. Diego Quintero provided multiple corner kicks for the Raiders at 14, 19, and 38 minutes, but their efforts did not convert into goals. Montreat's Andres Saborio had a shot wide at 22 minutes, and the half concluded with the Raiders committing several fouls, limiting their offensive momentum.

The second half began with both teams actively seeking opportunities, but the Raiders' defense, led by goalie Edoardo Alessandrini, prevented Montreat from finding the net. Montreat's Alejandro Hernandez and Ethan Grasso forced saves from Alessandrini in the 47th and 51st minutes, respectively. The Raiders' Brazones and Saydee were notable in their offensive efforts, with Saydee contributing with a corner kick in the 77th minute. Despite numerous fouls from both sides, the Raiders' Jovany Kabongo broke the deadlock in the 89th minute, scoring the match's only goal with assists from Keuhn and Gorka Ilundain, securing a 1-0 victory for the Raiders.
