Northwestern Drops GPAC Tourney Opener

Yankton, S.D. - The first round of GPAC Tournament play saw the Raiders face off against recent opponent Doane in a game where Northwestern was outmatched 11-1 in eight innings.

Loss: Drew Dykstra (6-4)

The Raiders opened the scoring in the third inning on Bryce Click's RBI single to center field, giving Northwestern a 1-0 lead. Doane responded in the fifth inning, scoring the first run on a fielder's choice, followed by two unearned runs due to a Raiders' throwing error, pushing the Tigers ahead 4-1. In the sixth, Doane extended their lead with a run scored on a wild pitch. During the seventh inning, the Tigers widened the gap further, adding four runs, resulting in a 9-1 lead for Doane. Two more runs in the eighth inning capped the scoring, securing an 11-1 victory for Doane over Northwestern.

Game Notes:
  • Tyler Schroeder connected on two hits including a double
  • Grant Guidry also notched two hits
  • Drew Dykstra allowed one earned run in 4.2 innings on six hits
  • Dykstra ties the program record for career strikeouts with 275
  • Raiders now have dropped four of five contests to Doane this season
