Convincing Wins Punctuate 40-Win Regular Season

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Northwestern reached 40 wins to end the regular season, marking the third season in a row to do so.

How It Happened
Northwestern shut out Briar Cliff with a 10-0 victory in five innings, highlighted by scoring in each of the first three innings, including a three-run third inning.

The Red Raiders took an early lead with two runs in the first. Sydney Jacobs walked and later scored on an error, while Ashtyn Billings contributed with a single and stolen base, eventually scoring on a sacrifice by Chloe Gallegos. The Chargers were held scoreless in the home half, making it 2–0 after the first.

In the second inning, the Raiders extended their lead to 4-0 by adding two more runs. Tatum Schmalbeck doubled and scored on a bunt single by Cassidy Gors, who also scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Jori Hajek.

The third inning saw the Raiders capitalize further with three additional runs. Billings walked and scored on a triple by Gwen Mikkelsen, marking Mikkelsen's 50th RBI of the year. Gallegos then doubled, bringing Mikkelsen home, and later scored on a passed ball.

In the fifth inning, the Raiders solidified their commanding position by scoring three more runs. Jacobs hit a two-RBI single, and Billings followed with an RBI single, bringing the score to 10–0. The Chargers were unable to respond, ending the game after five frames.

How It Happened
Northwestern defeated Briar Cliff with a 9-0 victory in game two, highlighted by a six-run second inning at Hubbard Park.

The Red Raiders opened the game with a strong start in the first inning. Sydney Jacobs doubled and advanced to third on a passed ball, setting up Gwen Mikkelsen's RBI single that brought Jacobs home. Ravyn Krachey followed with a base hit, driving in Mikkelsen and giving the Raiders an early 2–0 lead.

In the second inning, the Raiders extended their advantage with a six-run burst. Tatum Schmalbeck led off with a single, and Maddie Kvatek reached on an error to put two on. Charli Bomgaars and Jori Hajek kept the momentum, with Jacobs earning an RBI walk. Ashtyn Billings, Mikkelsen, and Chloe Gallegos contributed RBIs, while Schmalbeck capped off the inning with a single driving in another run, pushing the lead to 8–0.

Northwestern added another run in the third inning as Jacobs singled and was driven in by Mikkelsen's RBI single, putting the score at 9–0. The defensive efforts of the Raiders were solid, holding the Chargers scoreless through five innings to secure their 40th win of the year.
