Raiders Split Top-25 Matchup on Monday

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – No. 7 Northwestern won game one of a highly-anticipated doubleheader with No. 22 Midland, holding firm at the top of the GPAC standings with a split series.

How It Happened
Northwestern secured a 3-2 victory over Midland in game one, highlighted by two home runs on a sunny day in Orange City.

Sydney Jacobs opened the game with an opposite-field home run to left, the first of her careeer, giving the Raiders an early lead.

In the second, Jori Hajek extended the advantage with another solo homer, pushing the score to 2–0. By the close of the third inning, the Raiders maintained their lead, as the Warriors failed to score.

In the fourth inning, the Warriors responded with a two-run blast to tie the game at 2–2. However, the Raiders' defense held firm in the fifth, preventing any further scoring from the Warriors.

Northwestern reclaimed the lead in the sixth when Ashtyn Billings, who ran for Ravyn Krachey, scored an unearned run on another clutch at-bat by Chloe Gallegos, putting the Raiders ahead for good.

Tatum Schmalbeck and the Raider defense secured the save by shutting down the Warriors in order in the seventh, as Northwestern won its fourth top-25 game of the year.

How It Happened
Midland erupted for four runs in the final two innings to pull away from Northwestern in game two.

The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when the Warriors broke through with the first run. After a series of singles, an RBI base hit to right gave Midland a 1-0 lead. The Red Raiders responded in the bottom half of the inning as Gwen Mikkelsen scored on a sacrifice fly by Jori Hajek, tying the game at 1-1 after four.

Midland pulled ahead in the sixth inning with a two-run single, bringing the score to 3-1. The Raiders were unable to respond in their half of the inning, being retired in order.

In the final frame, the Warriors added two more runs, extending their lead to 5-1. Northwestern managed a single by Hajek in their final at-bat but could not mount a comeback, concluding the game with a 5-1 victory for the Warriors.
