Saturday Softball Split

Tuscon, Ariz. - After resuming a postponed game Saturday morning, the Raiders split their next two games falling to Valley City State 7-4 before picking up a 7-2 victory over Jamestown.

Game 1: NWC 4 - VCSU 7

Pitching Decisions

Win:
M. Zander (3-4)

Loss: Kate Kralik (7-3)

In the second inning, the Red Raiders capitalized on a wild pitch to bring in their first run, tying the game at 1-1. Northwestern added another run in the third as Gwen Mikkelsen delivered an RBI double to right field. This sequence gave the Raiders a brief 2-1 lead before the end of the inning. The fourth inning showed some promise for Northwestern as they scored two runs after taking advantage of VCSU errors. This burst brought the game closer, with the score at 4-4. Despite the Raiders' efforts, the Vikings pulled ahead in the fifth inning with two runs, and added another in the sixth, leading to a final score of 7-4.

Game Notes
  • Offense led the way for VCSU as all but one batter recorded a hit
  • This was only the second game for the Raiders with 7 strikeouts
  • .174 is Northwestern's lowest batting average of the season

Northwestern opened the scoring in the third inning. Charli Bomgaars singled, proceeded to steal second, and scored on a passed ball, giving Northwestern a 1-0 lead. This momentum continued into the fourth inning, where two more runs crossed home, driving the score to 3-1 in favor of the Raiders. In the fifth inning, Northwestern maintained their lead with another run on a sacrifice by Jori Hajek, extending the score to 4-1. The Raiders capitalized on an error and a series of hits in the sixth, scoring three, including a two-run single from Chloe Gallegos. This offensive burst increased Northwestern's lead to 7-1. In the final inning, Jamestown managed to add a run with a home run, but Northwestern's lead remained secure.
