Van Kalsbeek Named Second Team All-American

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Following the Red Raiders' second consecutive Round of 16 appearance, men's basketball forward Alex Van Kalsbeek was honored as a Second Team All-American by the NAIA.

Van Kalsbeek started 27 games this year, averaging 21.8 points per contest, the second-highest average of his career. He also grabbed 6.8 rebounds per game and shot the ball at an efficient 67.0%. The fifth-year hometown athlete finished the year eighth in the NAIA in field goal percentage and was third in the GPAC in scoring average.

In January, Van Kalsbeek became Northwestern's all-time leading scorer, passing Brandon Woudstra '03. After four full seasons, he totaled 2,682 points taking over the previous record of 2,478 points. With 897 career rebounds, Van Kalsbeek is sixth in program history.

"This is a well-deserved honor for Alex," Kris Korver said. "He has persevered, battled through a lot of injuries, and put in the work to play at a high level. We're really proud of him."

Van Kalsbeek has been recognized with Second Team All-American honors three years and was an honorable mention his freshman year.

LSU Alexandria's Kashie Natt was named the NAIA Player of the Year while College of Idaho head coach Colby Blaine was named the NAIA Coach of the Year.
