Home Runs Galore in Raiders Sweep

Orange City, IA - Northwestern hosted Dordt in a hard hitting double header but would sweep the games 5-4 and 11-4 as the Sioux County teams combine for 8 total home runs on the day.

The Defenders took an early lead with two leadoff solo home runs. The Raiders' offense responded in the third inning when Devin Dirkx RBI singled to left field, narrowing the deficit to 2-1. The fifth inning was pivotal for the Raiders, who capitalized on their chances and scored three runs. Luke Wroblewski walked and advanced on a passed ball before Dirkx brought him home with a single. Grant Rychnovsky then hit a two-run homer, giving the Raiders a 4-3 lead. In the sixth inning, Dordt responded with a home run but Rychnovsky would hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Tyler Schroeder to score, extending the Raiders' lead to 5-4. The Raiders' pitching and defense held firm, securing victory.

  • Grant Rychnovsky went 2-4 at the plate with both hits giving the Raiders the lead
  • Devin Dirks was 3-3 with 2 RBIs 
  • After giving up his first two homeruns this season to the first two batters, Drew Dykstra allowed just 5 additional hits and 2 additional runs

The Red Raiders opened the game strong in the first inning with two hits; however, they were unable to produce any runs. The Defenders also struggled to find momentum early, with no hits and no runs in the first. In the third inning, the Raiders took the lead with a two-run homer by Devin Dirkx, giving Northwestern a 2-1 advantage after Dordt had scored an unearned run earlier in the inning. The team continued to build on this in the fourth inning when Grant Guidry's RBI single extended the lead to 3-1.Northwestern widened their margin in the fifth inning with another two-run homer, this time by Drew Dykstra. The lead was further solidified in the sixth inning on Guidry's RBI single, followed by Dykstra's RBI double, pushing the score to 7-3. The seventh inning saw the Red Raiders' biggest scoring surge, adding four more runs. Bryce Click scored on a series of errors, Grant Rychnovsky hit a 2 RBI double, and Ranier Castillo with an RBI single effectively sealed the game. The Defenders managed a single run in their half of the inning, but it was not enough to overcome the Raiders' commanding 11-4 lead, which held through the ninth inning.
