Raiders Sweep Tuesday Doubleheader at Doane

CRETE, Neb. – The No. 4-ranked Red Raider softball team extended its lead to seven games, sweeping Doane on Tuesday afternoon to remain unbeaten in GPAC play.

How It Happened
The Red Raiders opened the scoring in the third inning as Cassidy Gors and Sydney Jacobs set the stage with consecutive singles, allowing Gwen Mikkelsen to drive in two runs with a double down the left field line. Mikkelsen's advance to third on the throw and subsequent score on a fielding error by the center fielder added another run, putting the Raiders ahead 3-0.

In the fifth inning, the Tigers managed to score their only run of the game. Prauner's single up the middle brought one in to score, but Doane was limited in the inning to hold the score at 3-1.

The Raiders sealed their victory with a productive seventh inning. It began with Gors singling to right center, followed by Reese Marek capitalizing on an error that allowed further advancement. Jori Hajek's single brought Gors home, while Tatum Schmalbeck's single up the middle added two more RBIs, extending the lead to 6-1.
 
Overall, the Raiders' performance was bolstered by timely hitting, including eight hits and six runs over the course of the game. Strong defensive plays limited the Tigers to just one run and five hits, securing a decisive win.

How It Happened
The Raiders came back from a 5-3 deficit in the seventh inning to improve to 4-0 in GPAC play.

Northwestern's offense came alive in the fourth inning, breaking a scoreless tie. After Tatum Schmalbeck walked before pinch runner Reese Marek was advanced to second on a Chloe Gallegos base hit. A sacrifice by Sydney Jacobs moved the runners, setting up Maddie Kvatek's bunt single that scored Marek. A fielding error by the Tigers allowed Gors and Gallegos to score unearned runs, giving the Red Raiders a 3-0 lead.

In the sixth inning, the Tigers responded with a significant offensive push. After a series of plays that advanced runners, a triple to deep right cleared the bases, driving in three runs and bringing the score to 4-3 in favor of the home squad. A subsequent single by added another run, making it 5-3 before the inning concluded.

The Raiders answered back in the seventh inning, scoring three to take the lead for good. Jori Hajek walked, and after a single from Gwen Mikkelsen, Schmalbeck reached first, loading the bases. A fielder's choice allowed Hajek to score, and a single by Kvatek brought in two more runs, closing the inning with the Raiders reclaiming the lead at 6-5.

The Tigers looked to rally in their final at-bat but couldn't capitalize. They reached on a leadoff single, but subsequent plays failed to bring her home. Kate Kralik struck out the final batter looking to end the game, securing a 6-5 victory for Northwestern.
