Saturday Split for Baseball

Wichita, KS - Northwestern baseball rounded out their weekend series with a split against Friends (KS) with a 10-9 win and a 13-1 loss in the opening weekend.

Game 1
Northwestern began the game with a solid start in the first inning with a single and a walk, setting up Dalton Garbers for a double to left field that brought in a run. The third inning saw a significant offensive surge from the Raiders, where the team tallied five runs. This inning was highlighted by Ranier Castillo's pivotal double to center field, which cleared the bases for three RBIs. Brody Ayers followed up with a single to left field, driving in another run, pushing the Raiders ahead 6-3. Northwestern extended their lead in the fifth inning with an additional two runs which they would replicate in the sixth for the 10-9 victory.

Game 2
The Falcons took an early lead, scoring six runs on six hits, including a three-run homer, leaving the Raiders trailing 6-0. In the second inning, the Raiders managed to get on the board, bringing the score to 6-1. The third inning saw Friends extending their lead to 10-1. The Raiders' defense held in the fourth inning, allowing no runs and although the Raiders had a hit in the fifth inning, they couldn't capitalize, as the Falcons continued to lead with a subsequent two runs, making it 12-1. In the sixth, the Raiders had some success at the plate with singles from Luke Wroblewski and Devin Dirkx, but they were unable to convert these opportunities into runs. The Falcons scored one more in their half, bringing the final score to 13-1.

  • Ranier Castillo picked up 4 RBIs in Game 1 leading the team on the day
  • Showing off his fielding prowess, Brody Ayers had four assists in each game
  • Raiders were outscored 22-11 on the day
