How It Happened
Northwestern opened the game with a strong start in the first inning, as
Luke Wroblewski hit a home run, securing an early lead. This momentum was maintained through effective pitching, as
Drew Dykstra held Lincoln University scoreless with three consecutive strikeouts in the bottom of the inning.
The sixth inning marked a significant performance for the Red Raiders. Dykstra started by singling and eventually scoring after a stolen base and a passed ball. Wroblewski and
Devin Dirkx contributed with RBIs, helping the team extend their lead to 5-0.
In the seventh inning, patience at the plate paid off as Wroblewski walked and advanced on a wild pitch, setting up
Grant Rychnovsky to draw a bases-loaded walk, bringing in another run. The team's ability to capitalize on Lincoln's pitching errors further increased their lead.
The game was capped off in the ninth inning with a two-run homer by
Brody Ayers, following a double by
Ranier Castillo. With nine runs on the scoreboard, Dykstra closed out the game effectively with Lincoln unable to score throughout the contest.
