Bouman Reaches 200 Wins at Northwestern, Raiders Sweep Friday’s Action

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – Head coach Shane Bouman won his 200th game as Northwestern's head coach as Northwestern defeated Mount Mercy (Iowa) and MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) on Friday.

How It Happened
In the second inning, the Red Raiders took the lead with an unearned run. Ashtyn Billings reached on a single and advanced to second on a throwing error by the Mustangs' shortstop. Maddie Kvatek then delivered a timely RBI single, allowing Billings to score and putting the Raiders up 1-0.

In the third inning, the Raiders extended their lead to 2-0. Charli Bomgaars started the inning with a bunt single and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Jori Hajek. After a flyout by Gwen Mikkelsen, Bomgaars scored on a throwing error by, marking another run for the Raiders.

The Mustangs managed to score in the fourth inning, but the Raiders responded immediately in the bottom half. Billings walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice groundout before Cassidy Gors hit a crucial RBI single to right field, bringing Billings home and restoring the Raiders' two-run advantage at 3-1.

Throughout the later innings, the Raiders' pitching staff maintained their lead. Despite the Mustangs' attempts to rally, the Raiders held them scoreless across the final three innings, securing a 3-1 victory.

How It Happened
After the Pioneers struck first in the opening frame, the Raiders evened the score at 1-1 in the second inning. Gwen Mikkelsen was hit by a pitch and later scored on an error by the shortstop, marking the Raiders' first run. The third inning saw the Red Raiders take a decisive 4-1 lead as Chloe Gallegos tripled, driving in two runs, followed by a bunt single from Mikkelsen that brought Gallegos home.

The fifth inning extended the Raiders' advantage to 8-3. Tatum Schmalbeck doubled to left field, contributing an RBI, and Cassidy Gors followed with a single to drive in another run. In the seventh inning, the Raiders secured the win by adding five more runs, making it 12-3. Berkley Johannsen and Gors both had RBI singles, while Maddie Kvatek's pinch-hit single also added to the tally. The Raiders finished the game with 14 hits and capitalized on three errors by their opponents to achieve a 12-3 victory.
