Northwestern Offense Shines in Split Series

Jefferson City, MO - The Raiders had strong offensive output on the second day of competition against Lincoln (MO) scoring 25 runs across two games as they split the series against the Tigers.

Game 1 - NWC 6, Lincoln (MO) 7

Pitching Decisions

Win: Jacob Claborn (2-1)

Loss: Nick Albro (1-1)

Lincoln (MO) started strong in the first inning with four runs, putting the Tigers ahead early. In the fourth inning, the Red Raiders responded with Devin Dirkx's two-run homer to center field, which brought Luke Wroblewski home after his walk and stolen base. Lincoln was unable to add to their score in this inning, allowing the Raiders to close the gap slightly. Northwestern made significant progress in the seventh inning by scoring four runs thanks to Drew Dykstra's RBI single and Wroblewski's two-RBI double. A throwing error allowed another run to score, and the Red Raiders took a 6-5 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Lincoln (MO) hit a double to right field, driving in two runs to secure a 7-6 victory for Lincoln.

How It Happened

In Game 2, Northwestern started strong scoring two runs in the first inning. In the fourth inning, the Red Raiders extended their lead by three more runs. A Devin Dirkx single to right field drove in two more runs before a single brought him home pushing the score to 6-0. The fifth inning saw another offensive surge, as Drew Dykstra doubled and stole third base, followed by Luke Wroblewski's double that brought Dykstra home. Dirkx added another run with his double and would make his way around the bases, increasing their lead to 9-4. Dirkx showed up in the sixth as he hit a grand slam into right field for the 13-4 lead. Their offensive momentum would continue as they scored six runs in the seventh, closing the inning with the Raiders leading 19-4.

Game Notes
  • Devin Dirkx tied a program record for single game RBI's with 7
  • Raiders may have scored 19 runs but they had plenty of opportunity for more with 12 runners left on
