Hastings, NE - As Northwestern wraps up the GPAC wrestling championships with five wrestlers placing and two wrestlers qualifying for nationals.
The Raiders sent 12 wrestlers to Hastings, Nebraska to compete in the GPAC championships this past weekend. It would be a strong Day 1 as nine wrestlers would earn at least one victory on the day.
Noah Parmelee and
Kaleb Lind would stay in control of their destiny as they won their way to Day 2 while staying on the championship side of the bracket. Unfortunately for Northwestern, some wrestlers found themselves in matchups with fellow teammates, ending seasons for some, continuing seasons for others. In total, it would be eight wrestlers who moved on to the second day of competition.
Saturday, would be another tough day of wrestling for the Raiders as they battled tougher competition and many already had a loss under their belts fighting back on the consolation side of the bracket. By the end of competition, it would be five wrestlers that find themselves placing and two earning their way to the national championship tournament:
"Kaleb & Noah both had a great tournament...consistent the entire two days," said Coach Dahl. "As team we wrestled hard...it's a young team with a high ceiling. Looking forward to Wichita in a few weeks and the next couple of years."
Tournament Notes
- Raiders earned 12 bonus point wins across the two days
- Noah Parmelee and Kaleb Grove both qualify for nationals for the first time
