Northwestern Aims for Top Marks at GPAC Indoor Championships

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – On February 14-15, the Northwestern women's track and field team will compete at the GPAC Indoor Championships, held at the DWU/Avera Sports & Wellness Complex in Mitchell, South Dakota. This exciting event will kick off with multis on Friday, followed by a full slate of standard events starting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

KEY ATHLETES TO WATCH
Emma Blum is one of the standout athletes for Northwestern, entering the championships with a provisional mark in the 400m, clocking in at 57.31. Her impressive performance at the Dennis Young Indoor Classic has set the stage for potential success in Mitchell. Blum is also ranked eighth in the GPAC for the 200m with a time of 25.71, making her a key competitor to watch during the event.

Another athlete to keep an eye on is Tierney Huss, who has been on a record-breaking spree this season. Huss has shattered the school's 60m dash record three times, now holding the fourth-best time in the GPAC with a swift 7.77. Her versatility doesn't stop there; she is ninth in the 200m with a time of 25.73 and 10th in the long jump, leaping 5.35m. Huss's dynamic performances promise to bring excitement and competitive edge to the championships.

TEAM HIGHLIGHTS
Several other Northwestern athletes are poised to compete at high levels. Abby Ervin has secured top-10 spots in the 800m and 1000m, while Emma Haley and Emily DeGroot are both geared up for distance events. In field events, Jacie Vander Waal and Aubrey DeGroot are among the top contenders in the high jump, and Maiya Speer and Aleigh Zettle are tied for sixth in the GPAC pole vault standings.

Relays will also be a significant part of the championship, with Northwestern's 4x400m and 4x800m teams both ranked in the GPAC's top-10, adding further anticipation to an already thrilling lineup.
