Northwestern Falls to No. 10 DWU 90-63

MITCHELL, S.D. – Northwestern faced a tough matchup against No. 10-ranked Dakota Wesleyan, ending with a 90-63 loss on Tuesday.

Northwestern started strong with Margo Schuiteman securing an early lead through a layup at the 8:12 mark. But DWU quickly countered with an 11-2 run, showcasing their dominance in the paint. The Raiders struggled to find their rhythm offensively, but kept up the defensive pressure with 15 rebounds.

Emily TerWee's jumper at 2:20 and a three-pointer from Kylie Foss with 20 seconds left helped cut the deficit. Yet, the Tigers closed the quarter with a layup, leading 18-10.

The second quarter saw a surge from the Raiders, with Emily TerWee sinking a series of layups to trim DWU's lead. Key assists from Kylie Foss and Jaelye Woudstra powered the Raiders' attack, pulling within two points. However, DWU answered back, extending their lead to 10 points at one stage.

Allison Piercy's back-to-back three-pointers brought the Raiders back into contention, but the Tigers held firm, countering each move by Northwestern. Both teams ended the quarter scoring 23 points apiece, with DWU holding a 41-33 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Raiders fought back with TerWee hitting several crucial jumpers. Foss added a block and a defensive rebound, keeping the Raiders competitive. Nonetheless, DWU's offense, led by Taliyah Hayes and Maleighya Estes, widened the gap.

Midway through the quarter, a brief resurgence saw Schuiteman sink two free throws and Foss add a three-pointer, narrowing the Tigers' lead. But DWU's consistent scoring, both inside and beyond the arc, kept the momentum in their favor with a 70-47 lead.

Entering the fourth, the Raiders opened play with a defensive rebound by Foss that led to a successful layup by TerWee at 8:59. The offense kept pushing, with Ellie Karolevitz contributing from the free-throw line and Piercy hitting another three-pointer.

Despite their efforts, the Tigers' strong shooting, capped by a late three-pointer from Lauren Van Oversheld at 1:19, extended their lead. The Raiders kept scoring with notable contributions from Ashtyn Wobig and Maddie Pottebaum but couldn't overcome the deficit. The game wrapped up with DWU winning 90–63.
