Geesaman Tagged as Director of Esports

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern College has announced the hiring of Avery Geesaman as its next Director of Esports.

"We are very excited to welcome Avery to Northwestern College and Red Raider Athletics," Vice President for Athletics Tony Hoops said. "Throughout a very thorough search process, Avery's extensive knowledge of the Esports industry, authentic Christian faith, and leadership abilities led our search committee to be confident he is the right person to lead Red Raider Esports into the future."

Geesaman brings valuable esports coaching experience into the role, coaching at Shenandoah University (Va.) during his time as a student. With a primary emphasis on Smash, he has served under Shenandoah's Director of Esports to lead practices, coordinate match schedules, and be a primary contact to competition coordinators, tournament organizers, and league officials.

"I am elated to continue my dream of pursing an industry that is growing in so many ways," Geesaman said. "Northwestern's culture of excellence and their strong commitment to serving Christ are especially exciting aspects that I look forward to participating in. I wish to continue to influence young people to be humble and hard-working through their chosen competition outlet."

In the role, Geesaman will lead Northwestern's three esports titles of Rocket League, Overwatch, and Smash Bros Ultimate. He will begin his duties in January, overseeing Northwestern's spring Overwatch season.

Hailing from Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, Geesaman will graduate from Shenandoah in December 2025 with a degree in esports management.
