Snowy Senior Day Punctuates Northwestern’s Home Schedule

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Colby Duncan scored six total touchdowns, leading Northwestern to a 51-20 win over Doane at a winter wonderland in De Valois Stadium.

The game opened with Northwestern as Solomon Tea's 21-yard rush on first down moved the ball downfield, but the drive stalled, resulting in a turnover on downs at the Doane 46.

The Red Raiders' defense responded with a strong performance, highlighted by Jacob Dragstra's sack, which forced the Tigers to punt. Trever Beach's block of the punt allowed the Red Raiders to regain possession at the Tigers' 17-yard line. Colby Duncan capitalized on the opportunity with a 5-yard touchdown run, and Gianna Bennett's successful kick extended the lead to 7-0.

Duncan connected with Sam Remmerde for a 9-yard gain on a subsequent drive, setting up his own 5-yard rushing touchdown to further the lead. The defense held firm against the Tigers' advances, with Jaxson Hildebrand recording a critical sack. Duncan later found Austyn Gerard for a 44-yard touchdown pass, closing the period with the Raiders ahead 14-0.

The Raiders seized control early in the second quarter with a safety as a snap went over the Doane punter's head, bringing the score to 16-0. The ensuing possession saw the Raiders capitalize, with Duncan connecting on a 47-yard touchdown pass to Gerard. Gianna Bennett's extra point was successful, extending the lead. The Raiders' defense then limited the Tigers to minimal yardage on their next possession.

Midway through the quarter, Duncan continued to excel, finding Remmerde for a 56-yard touchdown pass, increasing the lead to 29-0. Bennett again converted the extra point, putting the Red Raiders comfortably ahead. Northwestern's defense continued to apply pressure, including a sack by Brodie VanRegenmorter to end a Doane drive.

As the quarter wound down, the Raiders' offense struck again with a 53-yard touchdown pass from Duncan to Connor Slaba, with Bennett's kick making it 37-0. The Raiders then closed the half with a solid defensive stand, maintaining their significant lead heading into the break.

The Raiders opened the third quarter with a strong defensive stand, highlighted by Luke Jeltema and Kylar Fritz each breaking up passes to force a Tigers' punt. The Raiders capitalized on the ensuing possession with a drive that covered 50 yards, culminating in a 15-yard touchdown pass from Duncan to Cohen Jacobs. Bennett added the extra point, extending the lead.

Following another Tigers possession that ended with a punt, the Raiders quickly advanced 44 yards on a pass from Duncan to Tanner Schouten, setting up a scoring opportunity at the 1-yard line. However, a fumble at the goal line resulted in a touchback, giving the Tigers the ball. The Raiders' defense quickly regained control, limiting the Tigers to minimal gains and forcing another punt.

The period concluded with the Raiders maintaining possession, advancing to the Tigers' 15-yard line after a series of effective rushes and a key completion from Duncan. The score at the end of the third quarter was 44-0 in favor of the Red Raiders.

The Red Raiders began the fourth quarter by extending their lead, with Eli Carpenter rushing for a 13-yard touchdown at 14:15, followed by a successful extra point from Bennett. This sequence solidified their dominant position. The Tigers responded with a drive that culminated in a touchdown pass from Sam Hartman to Blake Allen, but the extra point attempt was missed, leaving the score at 51-6 in favor of the Red Raiders.

The Tigers continued to press, scoring twice more through the air. Hartman connected with Andrew Waido for an 8-yard touchdown, and a successful kick brought the score to 51-13. Following a Northwestern punt, the Tigers capitalized on their possession with Hartman running in another touchdown, narrowing the gap to 51-20 after a successful kick.

In the final minutes, a promising Raiders drive ended with an interception by Ricardo Briones at the Tigers' 7-yard line. Despite a sack and fumble recovery by the Tigers on the ensuing drive, the game concluded with the Raiders maintaining their substantial lead, securing a 51-20 victory.
