Northwestern Collects Overtime Win in Home Opener

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Ashtyn Wobig hit a shot with under 30 seconds left in regulation to send it to overtime, helping Northwestern secure a 78-74 win over John Brown (Ark.).

The team struggled offensively, converting only 1 of 17 field goal attempts, but managed to stay competitive by scoring from the free-throw line and capitalizing on turnovers. Margo Schuiteman contributed an early three-pointer to narrow the gap to 4–3.

Despite the Raiders' efforts, the Golden Eagles maintained control through efficient scoring in the paint, reaching their largest lead of nine points with 1:51 remaining. The Red Raiders concluded the quarter by converting two free throws, ending the first 10 minutes trailing 13–6.

The Raiders began the second quarter with a defensive stand, forcing a turnover that led to a layup by Margo Schuiteman. The team's defensive pressure was evident with five steals, including key takeaways by Foss and Maddie Pottebaum, contributing to maintaining momentum.

Northwestern engaged in a tense back-and-forth battle with JBU in the fourth quarter. Early on, Schuiteman's free throw cut the deficit to one, and Wobig's layup briefly gave Northwestern a lead at 8:59. The Golden Eagles responded with a 10-point surge, creating a significant swing in momentum.

Despite the pressure, the Raiders continued to fight back. Kluxdal and Ellie Karolevitz each contributed key layups to narrow the gap. With less than two minutes remaining, Wobig's consistent scoring, including a crucial jumper, leveled the score at 68.
