ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Despite a late push from the Raiders, the Bulldogs were able to hang on and upset #3 Northwestern in Orange City, 78-73.
Northwestern opened the first half with a quick layup by
Jalen Langsy to take an early lead, but Concordia responded swiftly, pushing ahead on the scoreboard. Despite the Raiders' strong presence in the paint, contributing 16 points, they faced a formidable offensive surge from the Bulldogs, which built a significant lead midway through the half. The Raiders attempted to close the gap, with notable contributions from
Jesse Van Kalsbeek, who consistently attacked the basket, and
Kaleb Booth, who added points from the free-throw line and beyond the arc. However, Concordia maintained their advantage, capitalizing on their three-point shooting and free throws as they led headed into the second half, 48-36.
The Red Raiders began the second half facing an 18-point deficit. Langsy and Van Kalsbeek led the charge with critical baskets, including a layup and a dunk, to chip away at Concordia's lead. Despite their efforts, the Bulldogs maintained a 69-51 advantage by the midpoint. As time waned,
Blake Aalbers ignited a late push with consecutive 3-pointers, aided by assists from Langsy. The Raiders closed the half strong, narrowing the gap. However, Concordia's free throws in the final seconds secured their lead, and a 78-73 victory.
