Balanced Attack Bolsters Raiders on the Road

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – No. 3 Northwestern secured a 92-79 victory over Dordt at DeWitt Gymnasium on Wednesday night. The Raiders' performance included 17 three-pointers, with 12 in the second half alone, to broaden the gap late.

Northwestern opened the first half with a strong start, securing an early five-point advantage by 18:53, highlighted by a three-pointer from Kaleb Booth assisted by Jalen Langsy. The Raiders maintained momentum with effective perimeter shooting and led in assists with eight in the half. Despite trailing at times, the Raiders kept the score close with contributions from the bench, adding nine points.

As the half progressed, Northwestern faced stiff competition from the Defenders, who capitalized on points in the paint and fast breaks. The Raiders' defense forced three turnovers, providing opportunities to narrow the gap. Manny Hammonds' free throws tied the score late, but the Defenders managed a slight edge as the half concluded with Northwestern trailing 42–40.

Northwestern quickly shifted momentum with a three-pointer from Hammonds to narrow the gap. Langsy's defensive play and subsequent three-pointer further tightened the score. The Raiders took control with a series of successful three-point shots and free throws, pulling ahead after being down by six.

The Raiders extended their lead with scoring from Jesse Van Kalsbeek, who contributed both in the paint and at the free-throw line. Northwestern capitalized on Dordt's turnovers and building a substantial advantage. They closed the half with a commanding lead of 92–79, outscoring the Defenders 52–37 in the half, establishing a significant cushion going into the final minutes.

  • Jesse Van Kalsbeek recorded a double-double with 21 points and 20 rebounds, contributing six assists.
  • His 20 rebounds tied a career-high, and he has scored at least 20 points in each game this season.
