Raiders Drop Thriller to #1 Dordt

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Northwestern went on the road to Dordt where they held the #1 team in the country on the ropes before the Defenders block the potential game-tying shot, defeating the Raiders, 73-71.

Northwestern began the first quarter with a quick jumper but Dordt responded with a seven point run, capitalizing on turnovers and fast breaks, to gain a 9–2 advantage. The Raiders then regrouped with contributions from Ashtyn Wobig and Allison Piercy to narrow the gap, showcasing effective scoring in the paint. Despite Northwestern's efforts, the Defenders maintained their momentum through efficient shooting and timely assists, establishing a seven point lead midway through the quarter. The Raiders continued to challenge with a late jumper by Jenna Kluxdal and a three-point play by Piercy, but Dordt concluded the quarter leading 24–17.

Northwestern demonstrated resilience in the second quarter, overcoming an early 12-point deficit. Wobig's consistent free-throw shooting helped chip away at Dordt's lead, while a defensive block and rebound by Aubrey Metzger set the tone for a more aggressive defense. The Raiders capitalized on this momentum, with Ellie Karolevitz and Margo Schuiteman contributing key points to narrow the gap, including Piercy's assist to Schuiteman for a crucial 3-pointer tying the game at 32–32. The Raiders closed the quarter trailing slightly, with a score of 39–37 in favor of the home team.

Northwestern began the third quarter strong, closing the gap with a 3-pointer from Kylie Foss and a jumper by Jenna Kluxdal, narrowing the score to 42-43. Despite turnovers, the Raiders managed to keep pace with the Defenders while the defense made crucial stops, closing the score to 49-51. However, Dordt maintained an offensive edge, extending their lead to 59-54 by the end of the quarter, despite Northwestern's late push.

The Raiders opened the fourth quarter with a critical 3-pointer by Kluxdal that narrowed the gap. A layup by Margo Schuiteman brought the score to 59-61, but Dordt responded, maintaining a slim lead. Ashtyn Wobig's 3-pointer at 5:44 shifted momentum, giving Northwestern a 64-62 lead. Another 3-pointer, this time by Pottebaum, extended Northwestern's advantage once again to 67-64 before Dordt tied the game again. The Raiders regained their lead, 71-69, with free throws at 0:56. In the final seconds, the Defenders showed why they were #1 as they tied the game with a jumper, and scored with one second left, leading 73-71. Northwestern's final attempt was blocked, and the game concluded with a narrow victory for Dordt.
