Volleyball Collects Three Yearly Awards; Seven Named to All-GPAC Teams

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) announced its volleyball all-conference teams, with seven Raiders receiving All-GPAC distinction. Stella Winterfeld and Zavyr Metzger were named GPAC Player and Defender of the Year, respectively, and Kyle Van Den Bosch was recognized as Coach of the Year.

"Our team has embraced a team-first mindset all season. We've used multiple lineups throughout the year, and whoever stepped on the court has consistently risen to the occasion," head coach Kyle Van Den Bosch said. "The players who earned All-Conference recognition are a true reflection of the success we've had as a group, and each honor is well-deserved!"

Kyle Van Den Bosch – GPAC Coach of the Year
A 10-time GPAC Coach of the Year honoree, Van Den Bosch receives this year's award for the third consecutive season after leading Northwestern to the GPAC regular season and tournament titles. The Raiders went 16-0 in conference play this year, winning 50 consecutive GPAC regular season and postseason matches. In the last three seasons, Van Den Bosch has led the Raiders to a 92-6 overall record.

Stella Winterfeld – GPAC Player of the Year; First Team (Outside Hitter)
In her first season at the outside hitter position, Winterfeld led the GPAC with 4.32 kills per set in 22 matches played. Despite missing a handful of matches to injury, Winterfeld has recorded 328 total kills and 198 digs. The First Team honor marks Winterfeld's first All-GPAC selection. Northwestern has now had a GPAC Player of the Year selection in three consecutive seasons after Jazlin (De Haan) Douma received the accolade the last two years.

Zavyr Metzger – GPAC Co-Defender of the Year; First Team (Middle Blocker)
A three-time GPAC Defender of the Year selection, Metzger has continued to be one of the top defensive players in the NAIA. The senior leads the country in blocks per set by a wide margin, holding a 1.93 blocks per set average. She has also added to her offensive output this season, posting 196 kills at 1.83 per set from the middle. Metzger is the first player in program history to receive a GPAC yearly award three times.

Maddy Sampson – First Team (Middle Blocker)
Sampson had a breakout season, leading the GPAC in hitting percentage (.364) and sitting second on the team in kills (217), kills per set (2.03), and blocks (97). The sophomore middle hitter from Worthington, Minnesota receives her first career All-GPAC honor after being named to the First Team.

Liv Reitsma – Second Team (Setter)
A three-time All-GPAC selection, Reitsma held the starting spot in Northwestern's 6-2 system, totaling 602 assists with an average of 5.63 per set. She also was a key defensively for the Raiders, averaging 2.37 digs per set, the second-highest average for her career. Reitsma added 24 service aces on the year and spread the ball around for a team with six players over 100 kills on the year.

Nyah Potthoff – Second Team (Setter)
Earning Second Team All-GPAC honors in her freshman season, Potthoff was second on the team with 523 assists at 4.89 per set. She was fourth on the team in service aces (25) and also added 2.07 digs per set.

Emma Westphal – Honorable Mention (Opposite Hitter)
An All-GPAC honorable mention for the second consecutive year, Westphal split time on the right side, averaging a career-best 1.64 kills per set. She was one of six Raiders to have at least 100 kills on the season.

Sidney Oostra – Honorable Mention (Outside Hitter)
Moving from a serving specialist role into an outside hitter spot this season, Oostra receives All-GPAC accolades for the first time in her career. The sophomore from Sioux Falls, South Dakota averaged 1.64 kills per set and led Northwestern with 27 service aces. Oostra showcased her versatility this season, also adding 2.70 digs per set for second on the team.

In addition to Northwestern's picks for GPAC yearly awards, Concordia's Ashley Keck and Emma Bruggeman were named Attacker and Freshman of the Year, respectively. Dakota Wesleyan's Lizzie Tyler was the GPAC Co-Defender of the Year, Kayleigh Hybertson was the GPAC Setter of the Year, and Concordia's Angie Boldt was named AVCA Assistant Coach of the Year.
