Raiders Capture Third Consecutive GPAC Title

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – In a highly-anticipated, top-five matchup for the GPAC tournament championship, No. 3 Northwestern took down No. 4 Concordia in four sets.

NWC 3, CUNE 1 (25-11, 23-25, 25-13, 25-19)
How It Happened
Northwestern opened the night with a commanding performance, opening the match with a 7-1 lead, built up by a pair of kills by Stella Winterfeld and errors from Concordia. Despite a few service errors, Northwestern maintained control, with Nyah Potthoff delivering a service ace to push the score to 20-10. Zavyr Metzger and Sidney Oostra combined for a block at 23-11, and Oostra's kill brought the Raiders to set point. The set concluded with a service ace by Winterfeld, sealing the 25-11 victory for the home team.

The Red Raiders initiated the second set with a kill by Winterfeld, but Concordia quickly evened the score. The Bulldogs then moved ahead with a series of points, including two kills by Ella Waters and a Northwestern error to make it 4-2. Northwestern responded with a 4-0 run, featuring consecutive kills by Winterfeld, to take a 7-5 lead. With Northwestern up 16-10, Concordia took a timeout and eventually worked their way within a point at 21-10. After the sides traded points out of the timeout, Concordia's Kya Scott capitalized on a kill to tie the score at 22-22, and a subsequent attack error by Northwestern gave Concordia a 23-22 advantage. Scott's kill then brought Concordia to set point, and the set concluded 25-23 in favor of the Bulldogs to even the match at a set apiece.

Northwestern maintained control in the third set, starting with an early 3-0 lead that included a service ace by Oostra and a kill by Maddy Sampson. After a brief response from the Bulldogs, the Raiders extended their lead to 9-2, highlighted by a block from Metzger and Winterfeld. CUNE called a timeout at 15-5 after a series of attack errors, which contributed to the Raiders' growing advantage. Despite efforts by the Bulldogs' Keck and Waters to close the gap, Northwestern sealed the set 25-13 with a final kill by Oostra, assisted by Potthoff.

The Raiders rallied in the fourth set to secure a 25-19 victory over Concordia. The Bulldogs initially led with a 7-3 advantage, highlighted by Keck's multiple kills. Northwestern responded with a series of points, including kills by Westphal and Oostra, which leveled the score at 7-7. Following a timeout, the Raiders pulled ahead with a decisive service ace and a kill by Sampson to lead 11-8. Winterfeld contributed significantly with several kills, and the Raiders capitalized on CUNE's errors to extend the lead.
