ORANGE CITY, Iowa — The Northwestern College Red Raiders powered to a 26–17 dual victory over Buena Vista University on Thursday night, fueled by a string of dominant bonus-point performances and a clutch heavyweight pin to seal the win.
Buena Vista struck first at 125 lbs, as Tyler Japp scored a technical fall over Logan Schroeder. But the Red Raiders bounced back immediately with Ethan Skoglund delivering a flawless 17-0 technical fall in just 2:16, tying the team score and swinging momentum back to Northwestern.
The Raiders kept rolling at 141 lbs, where Noah Parmelee poured on the offense in a 21-6 tech fall, giving the Raiders the lead 10-5.
At 149 lbs, Johnny Burnette extended their lead further after securing a fall early in the second period.
Buena Vista tightened the dual with decisions at 157, 174, 184, and 197, but not before Cade Braun added crucial bonus points at 165 lbs, earning a 10-2 major decision over Aiden Kirk.
With the dual still up for grabs heading into the final bout at 285lbs Logan Ash slammed the door shut. Ash wasted no time in his bout with BVU's Colton O'Hern and finished the night with a fall at 2:42, sealing the Red Raiders' team victory.
Northwestern's balanced attack—with three technical falls, two pins, and a major decision—proved too much for the Beavers. The Raiders win against the BVU in their home opener puts them at 1-0 in duals.
