Northwestern Secures Spot in the GPAC Championship

ORANGE CITY, Iowa - The Raiders have found themselves in Saturday's GPAC championship match once again, as they defeat Dakota Wesleyan 3-0 in tightly contested sets.

How It Happened

Northwestern opened the first set with a back-and-forth exchange of points, with neither team able to build a significant early lead. The Raiders gained momentum with a five point run, highlighted by a series of errors by the Tigers and a kill by Maddy Sampson at 12-8. Dakota Wesleyan called two timeouts to regroup, but Northwestern maintained control, with Sampson securing the final point on a kill, assisted by Liv Reitsma, to close the set.

Rylie Franken helped lead Northwestern to a 25-18 victory in the second set against Dakota Wesleyan, with critical contributions from Reitsma. Franken's early impact was evident with a kill and a block, helping the Raiders gain an early 3-1 lead. Despite the Tiger's efforts to close the gap, the Raider's consistent play, highlighted by Emma Westphal's trio of consecutive kills, extended the lead to 19-15. Sampson and Franken sealed the set with decisive kills and blocks, overcoming Dakota Wesleyan's attempts to rally.

Northwestern secured a 25-21 victory in the third set against Dakota Wesleyan, led by notable performances from Maddy Sampson and Stella Winterfeld. Winterfeld contributed significantly with key kills, including two consecutive that helped the Raiders pull ahead to a 13-9 lead, prompting a timeout from Dakota Wesleyan. Despite a series of attack errors allowing the Tigers to level the score at 13-13, Northwestern regained control with a block by Zavyr Metzger and Franken, extending the lead to 23-20. Winterfeld's decisive kill, assisted by Liv Reitsma, clinched the set for Northwestern.
