American State Bank Raider Athletes of the Week

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern College athletics has named men's soccer student-athlete Drew Darnold and women's soccer student-athlete Maddy Sampson as the Raider Athletes of the Week, presented by American State Bank, for their performances during the week of October 6th.

MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Drew Darnold, Men's Soccer
  • Darnold (So., Omaha, Neb.) scored a hat trick and added an assist in a 5-1 win over Mount Marty on Saturday.
  • The sophomore only needed 22 minutes to find the back of the net in all three of his shots on goal.
  • Darnold now leads the conference in goals and is second in total points.
FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Maddy Sampson, Volleyball
  • Sampson (So., Worthington, Minn.) was dominant offensively, tallying 21 kills on 32 attacks with five blocks in six sets of action.
  • The sophomore led the team in kills in the 3-0 win over Doane on Saturday with a career-high 13 while adding three blocks. 
  • Sampson's efficient week of .594 hitting percentage places her fifth in the GPAC, hitting .299 on the year.
