Dominant Senior Night Sweep

ORANGE CITY, Iowa - The Raiders celebrated homecoming and their six seniors on Saturday accordingly as they defeated Doane 3-0 behind big performances from seniors Liv Reitsma and Zavyr Metzger.

How It Happened

Northwestern started strong against Doane in the first set, quickly finding rhythm through key plays by Maddy Sampson and Liv Reitsma. Sampson made a significant impact with four kills as Reitsma contributed not only with assists but also added two service aces that widened the gap. Despite Doane's efforts, the Raiders maintained control, capitalizing on errors. Reitsma capped the set with a service ace, securing a 25-18 victory.

Northwestern dominated the second set against the Tigers with a powerful performance at the net. Zavyr Metzger and Sidney Oostra were instrumental in blocking, contributing to multiple attack errors from the opposition, while Oostra also notched several kills. The Raiders took an early 3-0 lead, and maintained their momentum with a service ace from Oostra at 6-2. Despite a brief rally by Doane, Northwestern continued to push forward, with Maddy Sampson and Oostra delivering key kills in the final stretch. Reitsma's assists were crucial in the closing moments, helping Oostra secure the last two points to close the set 25-14 in favor of the Raiders.

The third set saw Northwestern edge out Doane in a tightly contested battle. Early exchanges kept the score tight, with Aubrey De Groot and Emma Westphal making key kills for the Raiders. Midway through the set, Northwestern pulled ahead with a series of blocks and a service ace by Madi Nemmers, leading to a 15-12 advantage. Despite a late tie and push from the Tigers, the Raiders pulled away and concluded the set with a service ace from Sidney Oostra, sealing the set at 25-20.
