Winterfeld Shines as Raiders' Win Streak Continues

MITCHELL, S.D. -  Northwestern continues their win streak with a 3-0 win over Dakota Wesleyan for the 11th victory in a row. The #3 team in the country was bolstered by a huge performance by Stella Winterfeld, contributing on offense and defense.

How It Happened

Northwestern started the match strong, swiftly taking control with key plays from Stella Winterfeld and Maddy Sampson. Winterfeld contributed with multiple kills, including the final two points of the set, assisted by Liv Reitsma. The Tigers managed to keep the score close early on, however, the Raiders built momentum with a series of blocks and kills, extending their lead. After a timeout by DWU at 15-12, Northwestern continued to dominate, ultimately closing the set 25-16 with a decisive kill by Winterfeld.

Northwestern rallied in an intense second set to secure a 27-25 victory against Dakota Wesleyan. The set featured multiple standout performances, including Winterfeld providing crucial kills that helped the Red Raiders maintain their momentum. The set was closely contested throughout, as no on led by more than four and no score streaks higher than three were attained. Northwestern eventually sealed the win on a block by Winterfeld and Sampson.

In the third set, Stella Winterfeld was once again instrumental, contributing multiple kills, including back-to-back points to extend the lead to 11-8. Liv Reitsma provided crucial assists throughout, setting up Winterfeld and others effectively. DWU attempted to rally, but Northwestern's blocking, particularly from Zavyr Metzger and Winterfeld, proved decisive, culminating in a block to clinch the set.

  • Stella Winterfeld was dominant with 21 kills, a career-high six blocks, and 10 digs.
  • Zavyr Metzger and Maddy Sampson trailed just behind Winterfeld with five blocks each.
  • Five Raiders notched at at least six kills: Winterfeld (21), Metzger (7), Sidney Oostra (7), Sampson (6), and Emma Westphal (6)
  • Rylie Franken (.364) and Metzger (.500) continue as two of the top most efficient hitters in the GPAC.
  • Northwestern featured four players with at least 10 digs. 
  • Liv Reitsma led the team in assists with 24.
