Raiders Fall on Second Half Goal

ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Northwestern College (11-2-2, 6-1-1) suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Hastings College (7-3-4, 3-2-2) on Saturday, despite outshooting the visitors 20 to 10 at the NWC Soccer Complex.

The Red Raiders pressed early with Gonzalo Domingo sending a high shot in the 4th minute, and Bauti Marques forcing a save from Watkins in the 14th minute. The Broncos countered with Tim Berger's wide attempt in the 16th minute and a blocked shot by Juan Rubio shortly after. Despite multiple fouls and an offside call against both teams, neither side was able to break through, leaving the score tied at 0-0 at the end of the half.

Hastings secured a 1-0 victory over the Raiders with a decisive goal from Tim Berger in the 50th minute. Despite Northwestern's persistent efforts, including multiple attempts by Rodri Perez and Giulio Palombo, they were unable to equalize. Alessandrini made a crucial save on a shot by Fran Beron in the 81st minute, keeping his team in contention. However, the home team's numerous shots missing by inches and a saved attempt by Jovany Kabongo at the 82nd minute and a saved header from Gorka Ilundain, allowing the Broncos to maintain their lead until the end of the match.
