ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Northwestern College (6-3-1, 2-1-1 GPAC) fell behind early and couldn't recover Wednesday night at the NWC Soccer Complex, dropping a 3-1 decision to Dakota Wesleyan (2-2-5, 1-1-2 GPAC).
The Tigers struck quickly in the first half, finding the back of the net twice in a two-minute span. Annika Enevoldsen broke through in the 13th minute with her third goal of the season, followed by Molly Colgrove's tally in the 15th minute that gave DWU a 2-0 cushion. Northwestern pressed hard with 11 first-half shots, including multiple looks from Aliza Edwards and Lucy Staines, but the Raiders could not get on the board before the end of the first-half.
Out of halftime, Dakota Wesleyan extended the lead when senior forward Hannah Petrucci buried her fourth goal of the year in the 52nd minute to make it 3-0. Northwestern continued to generate chances, and finally capitalized in the 80th minute when Staines converted for her fourth goal of the season, cutting the deficit to 3-1. Despite a flurry of late corners and shots, the Red Raiders couldn't close the gap as time expired.
Northwestern out shot DWU 22-11 in the match and earned six corner kicks to the Tigers' two, but Colgrove's five saves proved the difference. Raider goalkeeper Bailey Bynum finished with three saves in net.
