Raiders Claim Key Win in a Nail-Biter

ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Northwestern (9-1-1, 4-0-0) secured a 1-0 victory over Dakota Wesleyan (SD) (4-7-1, 2-1-1) at the NWC Soccer Complex with a decisive first-half goal.

Northwestern started the match against Dakota Wesleyan with strong offensive pressure, leading to multiple fouls by the visiting team. The game changing moment happened in the 14th minute when the Raiders had a free kick about 35 yards from the net. Juan Miranda curled the ball into the box where Jannes Keuhn headed it in past the diving goalkeeper to put the Raiders up 1-0. The Tigers struggled to find rhythm, marked by offside calls and a missed opportunity in the 19th minute when a shot from Lewis Cunningham was blocked. Despite several attempts, including a blocked shot by Diego Quintero in the 41st minute, the Raiders maintained their 1-0 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, the Raiders' defense held firm against the Tigers' attempts, with goalkeeper Edoardo Alessandrini making three crucial saves at the 47th, 55th, and 65th minutes. DWU's Neil Ennis saw two header attempts miss the target, including a saved effort in the 80th minute. The Red Raiders' offensive pressure included three header attempts by Drew Darnold, all of which went wide by inches, and a high shot by Miranda in the 85th minute. Despite a tense final stretch filled with fouls and a yellow card to Bauti Marques, the half ended with no change in score, securing the win for the Raiders.
