Raiders Become Road Warriors with Convincing Victory

Fremont, Neb. - Northwestern defeated Midland 87-48 at the Wikert Event Center in Fremont, Nebraska, on Saturday.

Northwestern began the first quarter with strong offense, highlighted by Hali Anderson's opening layup. Anderson continued her impact, contributing a 3-pointer at the 5:16 mark and a series of defensive rebounds, ending the quarter with a total of 10 points. Ashtyn Wobig and Maren Nerem also made 3-pointers, helping the Raiders to a 15-point lead at the 1:22 mark. The Raiders' defense forced four turnovers and achieved three steals, capitalizing on the Warriors' struggles to maintain possession, which contributed to a 27-12 advantage by the end of the quarter.

During the second quarter, the Raiders maintained a strong performance, highlighted by Anderson's contributions with two successful free throws at the 9:56 mark and a layup at 4:36, contributing significantly to the team's 21-point total for the quarter. Molly Schany was effective at the free-throw line early in the quarter, converting both attempts to extend the lead. Despite the Warriors' efforts, including several 3-pointers, Anderson's 3-pointer with 1:06 left on the clock helped the Raiders keep their advantage as the quarter concluded.

In the third quarter, the Raiders maintained a strong offensive performance, scoring 25 points while holding the Warriors to just 6. Lexie Van Kekerix, Schany, and Piercy each contributed significantly, with Schany showcasing consistent scoring, including a layup at 2:00. Anderson facilitated the offense with key assists, and the team capitalized on turnovers, extending their lead to 33 points at one point in the quarter.

The Raiders maintained a strong performance in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Warriors 14-8. Piercy hit a 3-pointer at 5:12, assisted by Anderson, contributing to a notable scoring run. Nerem and Jenna Kluxdal each added layups, helping to build a significant lead, while Akaysa Duitscher closed the quarter with a 3-pointer, assisted by Maddie Pottebaum, securing the visitors' advantage. The Raiders' defense was marked by multiple defensive rebounds from Schany and Nerem, helping to limit the Warriors' scoring opportunities.
