Northwestern Fights to Draw with Park

PARKVILLE, Mo. – Drew Darnold and Stan van den Beld scored as the Raiders fought back to a draw Saturday afternoon in Parkville, Missouri.

The first half was full of action as both teams found the back of the net. The Raiders attacked offensively early as Drew Darnold rifled in a shot on goal in the 7th minute. Nine seconds later he found nylon as he netted the first goal of the match to break the 0-0 deadlock. The Pirates answered quickly with a goal by Diego Quintana to even the score of one goal apiece. Filip Andonovski broke the tie with a 23rd minute goal to push Park University ahead going into the halftime break.

The second half again started with the same intensity as the first. Northwestern's Stan van den Beld fired a shot on goal in the 50th minute, before converting a beautiful ball by Alex Ruiz a minute later to even the match 2-2 with 39 minutes of action left.

The remainder of the game saw a defensive masterclass from both squads as each team fought to break the deadlock to no avail. Raider keeper Rick Lammerts made a beautiful save on a Jacksyn McIntyre shot to keep the score even in the 84th minute as the clock continued to wind down.

From there, both teams battled to the final whistle settling on a 2-2 draw.
