Seward, Neb. – The Raiders couldn't find the back of the net in their opening conference game against Concordia.
Northwestern controlled possession of the game for most of the first half. Neither team had a shot on the goal, but the Raiders had multiple opportunities that came up short. Defense won the first 45 minutes over where the back lines held strong for both sides.
At the half, both teams were deadlocked at 0-0.
Offense picked up in the second half where both teams got off seven shots, Northwester with five on goal and Concordia with four. Even with the additional pressure from the Raiders, they could not get past the keeper.
In the 67th minute, the Bulldogs snuck one past the Raiders and off the right post to make the match 1-0.
The rest of the game was very physical with six cards in the second frame and 23 fouls between the teams.
In the 86th minute, the Bulldogs were given a red card for having too many men on the field. Northwestern finished the game with a man up but were unable to capitalize with the time remaining.
The Raiders came out with a 0-1 loss to start conference play that was a mere inches away from being a draw.
