SEWARD, Neb. - The Red Raiders opened conference play on a high note as they defeated Concordia (Neb.) 4-3 on Wednesday evening in Seward.
In a fast paced first half, the Bulldogs were the ones to open the scoring as Savannah Andrews converted a 37th minute attempt to give Concordia a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs carried that advantage into the break as the score was 1-0 going into the locker room.
The Raiders started fast in the second half as the Baccam duo teamed up to provide Northwestern with a boost of momentum. In the 46th minute, Avril Baccam found the back of the net off an assist from her sister Kylie Baccam to tie the match at 1-1. A few minutes later, Avril Baccam once again forced the hand of the Bulldog defense, drawing a foul inside the box and giving her a shot from the penalty spot, where she converted to double up the Red Raider lead.
In the 52nd minute, Grace Timm was on the receiving end of a Kylie Baccam assist, netting her second goal of the season and giving the Raiders a 3-1 lead with 38 minutes to play. Two minutes later, Kylie Baccam would be the one doing the scoring as Aliza Edwards found Baccam to give Northwestern a 4-1 lead over the Bulldogs.
A pair of Concordia goals trimmed the Raider lead to 4-3, but Northwestern was able to hold on for the hard-fought victory to open conference play on the road.
