Raiders Fall in Trip to Minnesota

SAINT PAUL, Minnesota – The Raiders struggled late in Minnesota Saturday evening as Northwestern fell 3-1 against Hamline.

The Raiders had control of the game in the first half as they led in shots and stayed clean defensively. No goals were allowed by Northwestern in the first half, and they were only called for one foul.

After the first 45 minutes of the game, the Raiders found themselves with a 1-0 lead. Stan van den Beld scored his third goal of the season in the 17th minute of the match. Jannes Kuehn obtained his first collegiate assist.

After the halftime break momentum switched sides.

Only three minutes into the new half Hamline found the back of the net after a Rick Lammerts save to make it a 1-1 game.

The Raiders struggled offensively in the second half with half as many shots on goal as the Pipers and they were not able to the ball past Hamline's goalkeeper.

After the early second half goal from Hamline, the Raiders defense held strong for the next 30 minutes. However, after a Northwestern corner kick, Hamline took the ball down the field and took a 2-1 lead in the 76th minute.

After the goal from the Pipers, Northwestern was only able to get one more shot off and Hamline put the game out of reach in the 87th minute where they put in one more goal for good measure.

The Raiders faced their first loss of the season as they moved to 1-1-1 on the season but look to bounce back on Friday August 30th, when they face Jamestown at home in the Pizza Ranch Classic.
